2MC Photo Gallery Autumn 2021-22
In art, we explored the work of Matisse and his cut-outs, with a focus on his famous piece called ‘The snail’. We started by drawing an actual snail, just like Matisse did. We looked closely at a snail found in our gardens outside and we noticed how the shell had a spiral shape. We then practised drawing spiral shapes in our sketch books.
In Food Technology, we started our topic on grains by exploring different grains. We noticed that there are lots of different grains and lots of different ways that we use grains in our everyday food. What grains do you have at home in your cupboards? Why not have a look with a grown-up?
To start our topic on Novels, we explored different texts and genres on the carpet. Many of the children could pick out the fiction books. We then looked at the features of the books that classified them as a novels. Our Novel this half-term is called ‘Stinky’.
Before we do any cooking, we explore issues around keeping safe in the kitchen. The children learnt about why it is so important to wash their hands and keep surfaces clean. They made lots of different microbes with play dough.
When exploring the capital city of Cardiff, we used Google Maps to have a good look around the city. We could spot various famous landmarks and used this information to make a large wall display. Which cities could you explore at home using Google Maps?
Class 2MC work with the Warrington Wolves in PE. They were working on moving like jungle animals!
Science Week – Food as Fuel
For science day, we explored how food fuels our bodies. We watched a great video on Operation Ouch about how this is done and how the right amount and the right type of food is important to the function of a healthy body. We then explored this further by drawing around our bodies and splitting into three groups: a group with low energy; a group with high energy and a group with an optimum amount of energy. We looked at how we could feed these bodies to create these outcomes. We also recapped on healthy food and what makes a healthy diet.
