We have had a wonderful first half term in Caterpillar class. Our topic has been 'Fantasy Stories' and we had great fun learning all about dragons and other mythical creatures. The children enjoyed being creative, designing their own castles and dragons. We also made some wonderful artwork for our story 'The Baddies' as we made our own mixed media ogre portraits.

We had lots of fun during our science lessons, where we have been doing some exciting experiments. Our favourite lesson was about force, where we got to make balloon rockets and watch them whizz across the classroom.

In the run up to Halloween, we did lots of activities around the story 'Room on the Broom'. The children loved this story and were very excited by the hungry dragon! We had a wonderful time making our own potions and exploring the insides of pumpkins.

Autumn 2

This half term we have been learning all about the weather. We have enjoyed lots of sensory activities that have helped us to understand what different weather types feel and look like. We have learnt about different types of weather experienced around the world and how to dress ourselves appropriately depending on the weather.

Our favourite book was ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. The children have created some beautiful artwork and sensory story maps. We also enjoyed the book ‘Seasons Come, Seasons Go – Tree’ which helped us to understand the weather changes that we can observe through the different seasons.

In art, we focussed on the artist ‘Tomasz Schafernaker’ and the children made some fabulous, weather focussed artwork in his trademark style.

We ended the half term with a Christmas trip to CAFT, where we enjoyed a show in the forest, toasted marshmallows on the fire and even had a visit from Father Christmas himself!
