NHS Mental Health Support Team (MHST)
https://www.merseycare.nhs.uk/our-services/warrington/mental-health-support-team-schools
Our Mental Health Support Team service provides direct mental health support to 40 primary and secondary schools in Warrington.
The service aims to promote the early detection and prevention of mental health problems across the whole school, and strengthen links between schools and mental health services.
The team will provide direct, ongoing support to schools around mental health and wellbeing. This will include:
- Providing direct interventions to pupils with mild to moderate mental health conditions, such as anxiety, low mood or behavioural difficulties.
- Where young people require specialist support, making onward referrals for pupils to local services, such as child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).
- Providing training, education and advice to school staff to help them better support their pupils around mental and emotional wellbeing.
- Championing mental wellbeing and resilience across the whole school community, providing guidance around issues such as bullying and coping with exam stress.
The service will sit alongside and complement any existing mental health support that schools have access to, including the school link programme within CAMHS and mental health first aid training for schools.

TARGETED YOUTH SERVICES
https://warringtonyouthzone.org/young-people/targeted-youth-services/
At Warrington Youth Zone, we prioritise the health and wellbeing of both our members and our staff.
We have a number of amazing programmes, projects, benefits and support available. The targeted programmes that Warrington Youth Zone deliver are a fantastic way for young people to focus on themselves and improve their health, physically and mentally.
From fun and structured projects in our Project Zone to some of our Funded Programmes, we also have an amazing Health and Wellbeing offer.
Community Mentoring
The Community Mentoring programme offers one to one support for vulnerable and at risk children and young people aged 7 – 19. Volunteer mentors meet weekly with a young person referred to the programme to provide a bespoke package tailored to support personal, social and emotional development. Mentoring sessions take place both in the Youth Zone and in the local community, offering fun activities including sports, arts and crafts, cooking, bowling and much more! The Mentoring programme also runs regular group trips and activities throughout the year.
Buddy Up is a befriending project supporting children and young people with disabilities. The programme encourages interaction with peers and greater social skills, reducing the risk of social isolation. Young people are encouraged to develop their independence and to ultimately access social groups and participate in activities without the support of their Buddy. The project runs regular trips and film nights helping young people develop a degree of confidence and, ideally, forge a friendship group.
Employability Matters
An employability and life skills programme for disadvantaged young people aged 14 – 25. Sessions include a combination of one to one mentoring support, group activities and employability workshops to explore and secure employability and educational outcomes. The programme offers a range of sessions delivered over several weeks and can be adapted to suit those still in full-time education but deemed to be at risk of NEET or those who have left the education system and are NEET. Accredited employability qualifications at Level 1 and 2 can be completed as part of this programme.
The Employability Hub
The Employability Hub is based at the Youth Zone and offers support to young people in the areas of life skills, employment skills, enterprise and careers guidance. The range of services include drop-in support sessions for applications, CV writing, interview skills etc. and bespoke employability packages with referrals to the Employability Matters programme, work experience, placements and apprenticeship opportunities. Our employability coaches can also support any young people struggling with expenses for workwear and travel.
Emotional Health and Wellbeing, 1:1s
Our Health and Wellbeing programme offers one to one support sessions for children and young people with a high level of need and requiring emotional and mental health support or a referral to counselling. (Please note, this programme currently takes internal referrals only).
