Summer Term

In Grasshopper we have taken great pride in producing a piece of Art for our Annual exhibition. It took us a long time to make our artwork. First, we moulded tin foil and made it into a spiral and stuck it to a canvas. We then covered it with plaster sheets and waited for it to dry. Finally, we chose the colours we wanted to use to decorate them. We sprinkled glitter onto the paint to make them shine. It was very messy and we had lots of fun. We can’t wait to show everyone our exhibition pieces.

In our English lessons we have been reading stories about animals and zoo’s. We loved sharing the story ‘Dear Zoo’. We had fun matching animals to the pictures in the book and exploring the story using props. Mr Sykes tried to make all the animal noises but they were not very good. We had lots of fun looking at all the different animals.

On Earth day we enjoyed exploring in a green and blue sensory tray and looking at animals in the artic. Mr Sykes filled the tray with ice, as the day went on the ice started to melt. We made a poster using blue and green handprints it said “I can change the world with my own two hands”. It was great fun.

This half term we have been really lucky and we have been engaging in forest school sessions with Mrs Lothrop. She has planned lots of exciting activities to help us learn. We have explored the forest school area safely. It has been lots of fun investigating things in water, soil and sand. We have swung in the hammock and hunted for bugs using magnifying glasses and tried to use binoculars to see birds. We have used good exploration, observational and listening skills. We have all had the best times.

We took advantage of the sunshine and spent lots of time outdoors. We extended our learning by engaging in continuous outdoor provision such as water play, where we explored volume and capacity, gross motor skills using the climbing frames and bikes, construction, building things, sensory and role play activities. It was lovely being outside, learning and having fun.

We had lots of sensory fun exploring and recognising numbers in maths. We searched for numbers in shaving foam, porridge, straw and in a feely bag. With support we matched numbers to digits on cards, pictures and real objects. It was very exciting and we all enjoyed making a mess.

We celebrated VE Day in true Green Lane style. We went shopping to Tesco to buy things we could use for our street party. Mr Sykes decorated the table with flags and put bunting up. He rearranged the tables ready for our party. We had lots of fun choosing the foods we wanted to eat, waved flags and we sat with our friends. The staff were so proud of how well we all coped with lots of changes. We loved listening to war time songs and even had a little dance. We had a fantastic afternoon.
