Autumn 1

Computing

Cross Curricular – Maths, SCERTS, Phonics, Science, Music

In Rose Class we all love to use the Interactive Whiteboard to extend our learning. Using websites such as Phonics play, TopMarks, Purplemash and Helpkidzlearn. We use the Interactive Whiteboard in all lessons to watch clips, complete maths, music, science, story massage and movement to music activities.

We all like taking turns to choose activities on helpkidzlearn and we all love Topmark Maths to investigate the number of the day. It’s fun watching the Bee’s working so hard to keep up with the work we are doing.

Turn taking and waiting patiently helps us work towards our SCERTS targets too.

Maths

Cross Curricular – Computing, SCERTS

Every day we have a maths focus this half term it has been on recognising numbers. We have used Topmark maths to investigate our number of the day using the Interactive Whiteboard. We use our counting up and down skills using songs on helpkidzlearn.

During our Intensive Interaction session we have been learning how to match numbers and some of us are able to order numbers too.

MFL

Cross Curricular Links: Food Technology, ART, Sensory

For European Language Day we had Germany? We thought can we do to support this? How wrong was I.

We had so much fun painting German flags, had sensory play using the colour’s of the German flag. We, as always made a lot of mess.

Tasting German food was so much fun. I was proud of how everyone tried to eat or at least smell the different foods presented.

PE

Cross Curricular – PSHE, SCERTS

We all enjoy our PE Sessions delivered by Warrington Wolves. Both Finn and Isaac make sure we develop our gross motor skills with lots of fun activities. We have been learning about control through catching and throwing, core stability using hoops and we all love the parachute warmup activities.

PSHE

Cross Curricular Links. Design Technology - Art

We had lots of fun making paper plate faces of ourselves. Lots of mess and paint everywhere. It was funny looking at our faces in the mirror and trying to make our faces look the same. We loved sticking things in the wrong places as it looked funny.

In my opinion we have lots of budding Piccasso’s in Rose Class.

RE – Diwali.

Cross Curricular – PSHE, SCERTS

We had so much fun exploring the Hindu festival of Diwali. We loved making Diva lights and hope you enjoyed them when we sent them home. Diwali is a festival of light. We played dressing up in Hindu clothes. Some of us didn’t want to take them off. We listened to Hindu music and danced to some modern music like Jai Ho. We enjoyed sensory mark making using mixtures of dried rice and porridge oats. It was fun when we added water to make it into messy play.

Roald Dahl Day

Cross Curricular links – English, Food Tech, SCERTS

Every year in the UK we celebrate the amazing works of Roald Dahl and the books he wrote. Many have been made into movies and stage productions.

We celebrated Roald Dahl Day by using sweets in a sensory tray activity to celebrate ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

Of course in Rose Class we had to investigate sweet treats!! We had fun mixing up different types of sweets to make our own favourite sweets.

Autumn 2

Attention Autism/Sensory Room

Cross curricular – SCERTS/History

This was an amazing experience for Rose class.

We agreed to have a trainee teacher come into class to see and share in the experience that we offer. We shared how the first Christmas tree came about. We did an attention autism session explaining the story, fully interactive and sensory. The teacher went away amazed at what Rose Class achieve in our own unique way.

We experience our school sensory room twice a week and all my class benefit so much from the experience.

Christingle

Every year we celebrate the festival of Christingle at Green Lane. A tradition that has been a Christian celebration for centuries.

The orange symbolises the earth, the ribbon symbolises Jesus’s sacrifice, the four cocktail sticks represent the four corners of the Earth and the sweets and fruit represent the fruits that god provides. The candle represents that Jesus and God are the light of the world.

We all loved making our Christingles, enjoying the smell of the orange when we made a hole for the candle. We also enjoyed eating the fruit and sweets that went on the cocktail sticks.

For the first time since we came out of lockdown we all shared our Christingle Service in the hall as a school. It was a special occasion.

Christmas

Cross curricular –SCERTS, Maths, Art, Computing, Design Technology

I can’t explain how much learning that took place over the Christmas period. We loved making our Christmas Table Decorations, sharing and waiting turns. Meeting Santa was amazing especially as it was a totally different place in school. I was proud of how everyone coped. The list of exciting things we did during this time would be endless. I hope you all enjoyed the things that we sent home.

We were so proud to take part in the Saint Rocco’s Reindeer Run

Stay and Play

Cross curricular – SCERTS, Food Tech, Design Tech PSHE

What an amazing afternoon that we spent with pupils and parents. Everyone got on board with activities and took my lead as to how myself and staff deal with our pupils. It was heartwarming to see everyone participating in activities with your kids and enjoying the experience. I can’t wait for the next one. I loved the fact you saw why we all get messy every day.

Intensive Interactions. (II)

II are the whole focus in Rose Class. These one to one activities are how we get our pupils to engage in activities and through repetitive engagements it promotes independence and understanding of tasks.

Modelling language, social interactions and visual learning through symbols helps us stay on task for longer periods of time. This helps us retain more information and helps us move forward to bigger and better things. It’s also lots of fun and makes sure we get messy and stay on task.
