What we have been up to this year

Autumn

Autumn:

During Autumn 2, the class has been focusing on the topic ‘Wars & Battles’. We started the term by looking at the World Wars, before ending by looking at the conflict within the Three Little Pigs.

Whilst looking at the World Wars, the class researched the ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign, looking at persuasive language before creating their own persuasive posters. We then tied this into our Science learning on plants and food by building our own ‘Dig for Victory’ gardens.

Our Three Little Pigs activities have included writing a Newspaper report about the story, creating an advert to sell their houses and creating a wanted poster for the big, bad wolf!

In maths we finished the term by have focussing on bar charts, pictograms and tally charts.

Across all of Autumn in careers the class have been preparing for their very own fashion show! This involved creating and visiting a shop to buy t-shirts and bags. The class then added designs to both items using tie dye and fabric pens. The term finished with the class performing a catwalk in front of Hedgehog class – well done everyone!

Spring 1

Spring 1:

For Spring 1, our topic was ‘Awe & Wonder’ and we linked our learning to the text ‘How to Catch a Rainbow’. We have looked at light within science and computing as well as different types of weather in geography and history. In English we have focused on creating instructions and explanations on how to make and catch a rainbow. We have also written our own poems about rainbows.

In Maths, we have focused on ordinal numbers, number bonds, shape and temperature. Linking our learning into how the temperature can affect the weather and what ordinal number place the colours in the rainbow have.

In Geography we looked at different landscapes. As part of our learning we compared and contrasted rural vs city landscapes. We used paints to demonstrate this in our books.

In English we looked at Alba the Hundred Year Old Fish, a story to educate about plastic pollution. We worked together across a number of lessons to research plastic pollution before creating a class information text.
